If you have a solid routine of cleansing your skin carefully every single morning and evening, that’s great. But there are loads of other things you can be doing to get the healthiest, glowiest skin possible. Start with these five for great results you’ll start to see straight away.

Weekly face mask
Even if you have got a great cleansing, toning, and moisturising routine down, add a weekly mask. It can draw out impurities that your other products will struggle to access. Face masks for oily or acne prone skin should be focused mainly on drying your skin out. Not in a bad way, though….they should work to soak up the excess oils, and then replenish your skin with the good stuff. The good stuff that actually should be there, that is. Be sure to read the instructions carefully, though. Some masks are quite harsh; they have to be to be effective! But that means you should only use these once a week.

Correct spot extraction
Attacking spots viciously and without mercy is tempting, isn’t it? I know, because I suffered with acne for many years (in the end I had to take Roaccutane for 6 months as it was so bad). But hold back! That vicious approach won’t just reach the spot; it will also affect the skin around it. And not in a good way. Your skin is precious and delicate and needs to be treated with care. Extract your spots carefully and calmly. For blackheads, use a blackhead extractor. These actually sort out the problem while leaving the skin around it alone. Also, never pick a spot unless or until it has a head on it. Yucky, but important.

Fortnightly Facials
Daily cleansing and weekly face masks are great. However, they just can’t do the same as a highly-trained professional can over an hour long facial session. Not only do they have access to a wider range of products than you probably do, but they massage your skin too. This makes a huge difference to how deep the products can get and then work. Go to a professional clinic, and you’ll be able to pick different types of facials. Some weeks you might need something really exfoliating. Just before a beach holiday is a great time to do this, as your skin will be smooth and ready to soak up some (safe) rays! Or you might want to start a course of anti-ageing facials. Tailor your facials to your current and future needs.

Getting enough sleep
This point simply can’t be stressed enough/ You can be using the most expensive designer products in the world on your skin. However, if you aren’t sleeping enough each night, your skin simply can’t reach maximum health. It is when you are sleeping that your insides race around repairing any damage that has been done to you during the day. Every hour you don’t sleep is one hour less for this repair work to take place.

Supplements and vitamins
Finally, consider adding supplements that promote healthy skin. Milk thistle is great for under-eye bags, while Vitamins D, C, E, and K are also fantastic. Research what your skin needs and then add supplements and vitamins to your diet accordingly.
