If, like me, you love a really good bottle of wine, then read on because I have some fab news for you.
I seem to fall more in love with wine all the time. It’s the perfect accompaniment to a nice meal, a treat to share with friends on a night out, and the added sparkle to a cosy night in with chocolates and a film. I find myself wanting to know more about it. How it’s made, where the different varieties come from, and what notes make up my favourite bottles, are all things I can’t claim to be an expert on, however. But I would like to learn more about it, and in the easiest way possible.
Enter Le Petit Ballon.
Le Petit Ballon is a monthly wine subscription service that delivers handpicked wines to your door. The bottles are chosen by Le Petit Ballon’s master sommelier, Jean Michel Deluc, former Head Sommelier at The Ritz Paris no less.
Each month you can receive two bottles of particularly-special wine. You also get:
– tasting notes to go with each bottle of wine
– Le Petit Ballon’s monthly wine magazine, The Gazette
– access to your online profile where you can review wines you’ve already tried and state your preferences. The online sommelier will then be able to recommend wines that suit your individual tastes. You can also see what to ask for in restaurants and supermarkets to be sure that you get wines that are suited to you
– access to subscriber prices on the website: at least 20% off any additional bottles you may want to buy
– exclusive flash sales, offers and freebies
Wine Tasting Made Easy
I was kindly gifted a box of wine to try out at home. I honestly couldn’t wait to open the bottles! Both, as expected, completely different from each other and both absolutely delicious. I loved the accompanying tasting notes for each bottle. You get a lot of information on each wine. Occasions where you might enjoy it are suggested to you, as well as descriptions of the particular estate it comes from, perfect foods to go with it, and some very useful notes on colour, aroma and taste. It’s a nice exercise to try to recognise these qualities yourself. The bottle of red, for example, was described as taking on a spicy character with some cool licorice notes after aeration. With a little guidance like this, it’s fun to be able to recognise these characteristics yourself.
The Gazette gives you more details about Le Petit Ballon itself, including how the subscription service works, interesting tips from Jean Michel Deluc himself, and many other insights in to wine tasting as a whole.
The online profile you establish is really useful to help you understand what kinds of wines you like. I love the suggestions on what you might like to try next.
Overall I love this service. It makes the perfect gift for someone who appreciates the finer things in life or just for yourself as a treat. Which takes me nicely on to my giveaway…
