Bidvine: The Easy Way To Find Local Service Professionals

The last year has been a blur for Sean and I. Once we found out we were moving house at the end of 2016, everything moved so fast and we were packed and living in a different county before we knew it. Everything then went on hold as we both started working for ourselves from home. It feels like we’ve been in a bubble, submerged in our business and barely getting a glimpse of the outside world. Now that the first year is over and we seem to think we know what we’re doing, we’re ready to come up for air and start venturing out more.

The weird thing is that, despite having lived here for over a year now, I still know very little about the area. We’ve made a pact in 2018 to get to know our surroundings more, get out and about in the local area and visit all the attractions we can. Another pact is to start working towards our goals outside of our business. For me, that’s fitness.

I’ve really neglected my fitness for over a year now. I do go through phases when it comes to exercise, and I really have to find motivation to do it as I’m not naturally into sports and fitness. I thought getting a personal trainer would be a great motivator for me. It would also get me out and about, taking in my surroundings and making the most of the wonderful countryside around me.

Bidvine approached me to review their services in exchange for an honest blog post. It was the perfect opportunity to see what the Forest of Dean can offer. The premise of Bidvine is that it can put you in touch with local professionals who basically answer your call for whatever it is you’re looking for. I put it to the test to find personal trainers nearby.

How It Works

The site is really easy to use. You can start your search straight from the homepage. You put in what you’re looking for and your postcode. You’re then taken through a series of questions tailored to your request. For example, when I asked to find personal training pros I was asked if I wanted to train for a particular event, what my fitness goal is, my age and sex, any medical conditions I have, where I wanted to work out, how often and on what days and times, and various other questions which help personal trainers quote their prices to you.

Once your request is complete it gets sent out to the professionals signed up to Bidvine to review. They then contact you via the site with their details. Bidders include their price quotation and any reviews they already have from the site’s users. You can also opt in to receive texts or phone calls directly from the personal trainers.

Over the next few days you wait for email notifications (and texts if you’ve opted for that too) when people respond to your request. At any time you can go in and cancel the request, and then go through the process again if you need to make any changes.

My experience

Initially I put in a request to find personal trainers within 5 miles of my postcode. Looking back, this was a long shot as I do live almost in the middle of nowhere. The Bidvine site did actually warn me that I may not get many responses, so I went back and revised it to 15 miles. I received the same warning, but decided to wait and see what would happen.

A couple of responses came in over the next couple of days from local personal trainers. I was really surprised by this as I am very remote.

Although I didn’t get a huge amount of responses for my own postcode, this wasn’t unexpected. I tried using my mum’s postcode for a request for her. She lives in a town and also wanted to find out about a service she needed, and that did have more responses.

My Verdict

I really love the ease of use of the Bidvine site. I think it’s so easy to put in a request. The questions you get asked are very relevant to that particular request. I had a play around with the site, and looked for wedding photographers and domestic cleaners. Each time, I got asked to answer questions about things I hadn’t even considered myself! It’s really well set up.

It’s also so easy to review your existing requests and any responses you’ve received. The amendment and cancellation process is straightforward and simple.

Who Would Love Bidvine

I think anyone would love Bidvine, but it’s really good for people who are:

  • moving, or have just moved, to a new area and want to learn more about the local services
  • trying to find professional assistance to help with certain goals (for example, fitness)
  • short on time and want someone else to do the hard work for them

Personally I don’t have much spare time at the moment. Not having to sift through website after website to find things I’m looking for is a great help. If you’re planning a wedding, looking for a plumber, or wanting to find piano lessons, Bidvine can do the legwork for you. It makes it easy to get several quotes at once. You also only have one place to visit to manage all the contacts you get.

If you’re in a busier area than I am, you’re bound to get more bids against your request. As Bidvine goes from strength to strength and awareness of the site builds over time, the numbers of professionals who are signed up to offer their services can only increase.

Sounds like you have had a busy year, we too moved in September, further away from town and I’m basically home 24/7 with the baby, I only go out to do shopping and school runs, but haven’t really explored our new area, the Bidvine sounds very handy, and easy to use with just enough questions to get you what you need without feeling like your filling in an essay xxx
