Healthy Meals Delivered To Your Door With Allplants

Even though it’s not even Christmas yet, I’m starting to feel the effects of the extra food and drinks that are around at this time of year. It’s a lot of fun, but my thoughts are already turning to what I’m going to do next year to become healthier. I know I’m going to end the year feeling sluggish. We all do it, don’t we? December is a really busy month for everyone, and there’s not always a lot of time to prioritise health and wellbeing. To help with this and to end the year feeling better than usual, I’ve had some healthy meals delivered to my door from Allplants.

Allplants are passionate about producing plant-based dishes that are home-cooked, healthy and nourishing. Because everyone needs to eat more vegetables, the dishes are completely plant-based. You won’t find any meat, fish, eggs or dairy in them. All the meals on their menu are simply packed full of veggies and other nutritious ingredients. They cook the meals and deliver them to your door.

I’d never tried any meal subscription service before so was really excited about giving this a try. I had three meals delivered, all of which are a meal for two and come frozen. Sean and I had a great few days testing them out for our lunches. And all we had to do was pop them in the oven for 40 – 45 minutes.

Lasagne Caponata

I absolutely love lasagne, and it can be hard to find a vegan ready-made version. This one has slow-cooked aubergines and tomatoes, olives, capers and raisins in layers of lasagna sheets and spinach, It’s then topped with pine nuts and a butternut squash béchamel.

This was really, really tasty. It’s very creamy, despite having no dairy in it at all. The pine nut topping was delicious, and it’s packed full of chunky veg. We had a side salad with it, as suggested by Allplants.

They also allow you to add your own seasoning so you can add salt if required. Great if you’re following a low salt diet.

It was very filling, and left us both full but without that post-carb sluggishness you usually get with a pasta dish.

Cauli Tikka Masala

This curry is one of Allplants’ newest dishes to the menu. The main ingredients are roasted cauliflower, butternut squash and okra. I loved finding okra in this; it’s one of my favourite vegetables and I think it’s greatly underused.

The Cauli Tikka Masala comes with rice as part of the dish, which we didn’t notice until it came out of the oven and we took the film off. Allplants had included a box of gluten-free cous cous with the parcels and I made up some of that before we noticed. We decided to save that for the another meal instead!

I really liked the taste of this one. It’s not too spicy, and you can add extra spices and seasonings if required. The sauce is coconut milk-based so very creamy and you’ll also find chickpeas and green beans hiding inside. It’s a really good protein fix.

Jerk Jackfruit

I was most intrigued about trying out this dish. I’ve seen jackfruit recipes all over Pinterest but have never tried it before, so had no idea what it would taste like.

This meal is made up from pulled jackfruit, spinach, peppers, kidney beans and Caribbean spices. It also has sticky, activated black rice and peas.

I was initially really surprised by how much jackfruit resembles meat! I wasn’t sure how much I would like it, having not eaten meat for almost 20 years. However, I was really pleased that it has a lovely texture and taste. The black rice and peas were absolutely delicious and the sweetness of the spices made a nice change from ordinary spicy food.

We combined it with a green leafy salad and it was a very filling and really delicious lunch. I’ll definitely be having jackfruit again.

An Allplants delivery or subscription would be perfect if you are:

  • a busy individual or couple who want some healthy ready-made meals in the freezer for when you don’t have time to cook properly
  • someone who wants to try out a range of vegan or vegetarian meals to see if you like them
  • someone who really doesn’t enjoy cooking and wants delicious healthy meals delivered to your door

I have really enjoyed trying all of these meals. I’m sold on the idea of having meals delivered to the home. Although I like cooking, since Sean and I started working for ourselves we work longer hours than ever before. Despite being at home all day, we have less time to cook than we did (sounds ridiculous but it’s true). Knowing that a filling and healthy meal is available in the freezer has been a godsend. It takes the pressure off as we can just pop one in the oven (or microwave as these are microwaveable too) and get back to work while it cooks. It also made us less likely to grab something quick and unhealthy for lunch (chips, I’m talking to you).

I really do recommend checking out Allplants and seeing what they have on their menu. There are lots of dishes to choose from, and you can order meals for one or two people. A little extra bonus: all packaging is recyclable and the delivery is carbon neutral.
