How To Freshen Up Your Bedroom

Your bedroom is somewhere that should be an absolute haven of tranquility. At the end of a long day, it’s vital we all have somewhere to go that instantly calms us, helps us wind down and aids in a relaxing sleep. In the mornings, we need a streamlined and organised space to enable us to get up and go quickly.

If your bedroom has come to be a cluttered or too sparse room which doesn’t provide the level of peace and restfulness that you require, it could need a freshen up. Restore your bedroom’s ability to instantly relax and recharge you with these quick tips.

Move It Around

Sometimes, all that’s needed to make a room feel fresh and new again is to shift the furniture around. Perhaps a different layout would give you better access to wardrobes and storage, or just make the room feel bigger. Have a play around with the furniture and see what other layouts you can come up with. A more coherent layout and larger feel can make the room feel entirely new.

Switch Up The Lighting

Create ambience with bedside lamps and softer lighting to help you relax in the evenings. This is particularly useful if your main light is a bright downlight, which can make the room feel stark at night when trying to relax. Think as well about specific lighting in areas that need it, such as inside wardrobes or at your dressing table. Small changes like this can make a big difference to how you feel about using your room.

Clear Out The Clutter

Nothing makes a room feel smaller and ‘noisier’ than a lot of cluttered items. If your wardrobe is bursting at the seams, drawers barely closing and surfaces completely covered over with things, have a good clear out. Having a good declutter feels very cleansing and you’ll be able to relax more in the evenings in the presence of a tidy and organised room.

Get Some New Bedding

Bedding makes all the difference to how you feel about your bedroom. It’s important that your bed feels luxurious and inviting. You’ll get a better night’s sleep and wake up feeling more refreshed if your bedding is comfortable and pleasing to the eye. Have a look at the bedding from Julian Charles for affordable yet stylish pieces.

Add Some Artwork

Placing some of your favourite artwork on the walls means you will enjoy being in your room more. Art adds atmosphere and character to a room, and really helps to freshen up the look of it.

Get Some Greenery

Plants have the ability to instantly add a relaxing and invigorating feel to a room. Grab a big green plant for your bedroom. It will help keep the air fresher as well. I love plants that are easy to care for (check out the String of Pearls plant I have in my home office for an example).

How do you instantly update your room? I would love to hear if you have any other tips.

Great ideas here – We have a lot of nice artwork in our bedroom. I would have house plants, but my wife hates them for some reason!
Oh, and her idea of decluttering is to take all her clothes out of the wardrobes, and then put them all back again! lol

Great tips here, Melissa Jane, not least the one about decluttering. I did a major clearout on my bedroom a few months ago and getting rid of a load of old junk made a massive difference. In addition to your ideas, I’d also advocate adding one signature piece of furniture which takes pride of place in the room, such as a new dressing table or desk. Having one statement item to look at every day makes the room feel all the more modern and fresh.

Ah, yes. Clutter spoils everything, it really does. A great place to start freshening up a room. Thanks for a useful list of additional ideas.

Great tips, thank you. I find that reassessing storage solutions is a must. It’s so easy to keep making do with what you’ve got instead of taking some time to think about whether there’s a better way of organising everything.
