Wine…the love of my life (apart from Sean, of course).
I absolutely love wine, despite knowing very little about it. All I know is that I like what I like. Rich reds are my favourite, particularly in the winter. I like fruity wines, not too sweet, and often the darker the better. When it comes to white wine, I love pale gold wines with lemon and other fresh notes. That’s why I was so excited when I received the December subscription box from Le Petit Ballon. Both wines were so completely up my street it was pretty much perfect.
What I like about Le Petit Ballon (apart from the wines) is that they give you interesting things to look at alongside drinking the wine. I’ve reviewed Le Petit Ballon before, and was not disappointed then as I am not disappointed now.
In the December subscription box, I received two bottles of wine and tasting notes for each bottle. Tasting notes are so useful, particularly if you’re not very good at describing wine yourself. They describe the history of that particular wine’s vineyard and creation, recommend food pairings, and let you know which notes you can expect to find.
The Bindi Sergardi – La Boncia 2016 is 100% Sangiovese with notes of red cherries, raspberries and a touch of mint and liquorice. It goes well with bolognese sauces, pizzas and meats.
This one was absolutely delicious. I loved how rich it was, with a dark ruby colour and bold berry taste. It stayed fresh with the mint and liquorice.
The white wine was the Château des Bois – Mâcon Milly-Lamartine 2015. This lovely Chardonnay is from the Abbey of Cluny in the middle of the Mâconnais. It’s very versatile, pairing well with goats’ cheese, asparagus and fish. Very pale and gold, it has citrus notes mixed with lemongrass and fresh butter. It was so delicious – very more-ish!
My box also came with The Gazette, Le Petit Ballon’s monthly wine magazine. This festive edition contained lots of party tips, including games, wine trivia and serving suggestions. It even has a couple of recipes suggested to go alongside your wines.
I highly recommend a Le Petit Ballon subscription. Each month you receive:
– two bottles of wine
– tasting notes for each wine
– access to your online profile where you can review wines you’ve already tried and state your preferences. The online sommelier will then be able to recommend wines that suit your individual tastes. You can also see what to ask for in restaurants and supermarkets to be sure that you get wines that are suited to you
– access to subscriber prices on the website: at least 20% off any additional bottles you may want to buy
– exclusive flash sales, offers and freebies
One of the best things is you never know what you’re going to get from month to month, so you get to try out wines you may never have picked out otherwise. It’s a great way to discover new favourites, and get to learn a bit about the wines you’re drinking.
Le Petit Ballon are kindly offering my readers the chance to win a box of wine, containing two bottles and all the extras I mention above.
Entries are via the Gleam app below.
The giveaway is open until midnight on Sunday 21 January 2018. It’s open to the UK only.
