We all know the importance of getting enough vitamins in our diets and daily lives. I’ve usually just taken a vitamin supplement thinking that it’s a really healthy option, without actually considering what the supplement is made from. It turns out, I’ve discovered, that binders, chemical fillers and synthetic vitamins are the mainstay of the supplement industry. Finding a multivitamin, for example, that doesn’t contain all these synthetic ingredients has been virtually impossible until now.
Garden of Life, America’s No. 1 Nutrition Brand in the Health Foods channel, has launched its bestselling range of supplements in the UK. They have developed a multivitamin that is certified organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, and made from nothing but real, whole foods. In fact, all of their products, whether it’s a vitamin, probiotic, or a protein powder, are made from real foods.
I’ve been trying out some Garden of Life products, and am really amazed to find out what’s in them (and what isn’t).
The mykind Organics B12 Organic Spray
I have had a B12 deficiency in the past, which is very unpleasant. My symptoms were extreme lethargy, a foggy mind, and eventually tingling in my arms and legs. When I visited the doctor because of this last symptom, blood tests showed my B12 levels were extremely low. I then went through a course of six injections to get me back into the normal range. I feel so much better now, but it’s something I have to watch. Taking tablets is sometimes a bit of a chore, and easily forgotten about, but this spray version of B12 is really convenient. I keep it on my desk and use it once a day, as directed. It’s so easy, you just spray it into your mouth. It has a raspberry flavour and actually tastes really nice.
Garden of Life sprays are the only certified organic spray vitamins on the market. The spray format makes them more bioavailable (how quickly and how much reaches its target), and therefore the B12 is more quickly and efficiently absorbed into the bloodstream and utilised by the body. Formulations in spray form bypass the digestive tract, so those who have underlying digestive issues or generally poor absorption can benefit from formulations in sprays. You don’t need to refrigerate it. You can take it quickly and conveniently on the go. The dose can also be easily tailored, depending on need.
Microbiome Formula Once Daily Women’s Formula
Microbiome Once Daily Women’s Formula is a unique one-a-day shelf-stable formula. It is designed specifically to support a healthy microbiome, and women’s specific health needs.
It has a high count of 50 billion beneficial live bacteria, made from 16 diverse strains, including L. reuteri and L. fermentum. They are resistant to stomach acid and bile. They also support women’s vaginal health, as well as digestive and immune system health. Ladies who have suffered from, or do suffer from, any sort of balance issues in their bacteria will know this is to be avoided at any cost. Dr Perlmutter’s formula contains organic acacia and organic potato starch as prebiotics, thus avoiding the commonly used prebiotic fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) . This minimises side effects such as bloating and provides better overall digestive comfort. The formula is suitable for those following a Low FODMAP diet. Those suffering from symptoms linked to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) follow this type of diet.
You do not need to keep this in the fridge, unlike other probiotics. I keep it in front of me on my desk so I don’t forget to take it.
I love finding new innovations in health and Garden of Life has me intrigued to try more of their products.
Garden of Life products are available from Wholefoods, Planet Organic, John Bell, Revital and independent stores nationwide.

I’m also B12 deficient (I suffer from pernicious anaemia so have to rely solely on the injections), this means that I also run low on folate and iron as well so I do try and make sure I take Vitamins every day. Vitamin D is another deficiency I developed around the same time as my pernicious anaemia and I found out that it’s very common in the UK – so once I stopped taking my really high, prescribed dose, I moved on to a maintenance over the counter dose.
