Outdoor party checklist: 7 essentials to tick off

With spring in full swing and temperatures heating up, millions of us are heading into our backyards and hosting outdoor parties. Whether you’ve got a birthday coming up, an anniversary, or you just want some time relaxing with your loved ones, to bring your outdoor party to life, here are some essentials you need to think about in advance.

Food

It wouldn’t be an outdoor party without some grub, would it? This means you need to stock up on lots of tasty food to satisfy all taste buds. We understand the word ‘food’ is very vague, so to narrow down the list, it’s best to pick a theme. For example, if you’re throwing a pizza party, you may want to look into buying an Ooni Pizza Oven from Ooni.com. They have a wide selection of gas and wood-fired portable pizza ovens, as well as cooking accessories.

Whatever food you decide on, you must be aware of any guest allergies and intolerances too. Also, get everything ready the night before. This means sorting your appetizers out and having them ready to be put on the table.

Drink

When the sun is shining, nothing beats cracking open a can of beer. If you’re hosting an outdoor party, make sure drinks are top of the list! Having a selection of beverages like beer, soft drinks, and different wines will cover all attendees.

Also, don’t forget to have lots of water on hand. If it’s boiling hot outside, your guests will need it. And you can’t underestimate the importance of staying hydrated. The last thing you want is to run out of beverages, so it’s wise to buy extra.

Cutlery

However many guests you’ve got coming to your outdoor party, make sure there are plenty of plates, napkins, and silverware. Your party dinnerware should ideally correlate with the decorations. If you don’t want to spend the end of the party washing dishes, it’s best to stick with paper plates and cutlery.

Stock up on paper cups too so your guests can drink all night long without the worry of smashing a glass! Make sure you have a trash can outside too so guests can discard of their plates. You’ll be thankful for this when it comes to tidying up afterward.

Music

Madonna was right when she said ‘music makes the people come together’. When hosting an outdoor extravaganza, you’ll need tunes playing in the background throughout. Just ensure you choose songs that are appropriate for who’s coming. For example, any songs full of expletives aren’t ideal if you’re throwing a kid’s birthday party!

You can purchase speakers for your backyard that will help you set an ideal sound level. You don’t want to buy anything flimsy and find your guests can’t hear the music. It may be best to let your neighbors know about the music in advance to avoid any problems.

Decorations

To make sure everything matches and flows perfectly, you’ll need to decide on a theme for your outdoor party. The great thing about this is the possibilities are endless. The bad thing about this is you may struggle with what to choose. Thankfully, there are lots of outdoor event themes to pick from which are sure to make your guests go wild.

Once you’ve chosen a theme, you can get to work decorating your tables. To bring them to life, having a centerpiece, fairy lights, and banners can make all the difference. If you’re hosting a birthday party, don’t forget to blow up lots of balloons!

Seating

One of the challenging things to get perfect when throwing an outdoor party is having enough seating. Even if you’ve got a guestlist, there’s always the risk of an attendee bringing a friend along. Should this happen, you don’t want anyone having to stand up throughout proceedings. Therefore, having an extra couple of chairs should solve this problem.

Also, have enough tables for guests to put their food and drink on, otherwise, they’ll have to hold onto them all night long. When the sun goes down, have some cushions, and throws guests can use to keep cozy and warm outdoors.

Entertainment

Sure, having music on will get everyone in the party mood. But, why not go one step further and look at other forms of entertainment? If you’re throwing a kid’s party, they’re sure to get bored dancing on the spot after a while. This means you need to think about fun games they can play to keep them occupied. You could hire some inflatables like a castle that is great for all age groups.

If you’re hosting an adult-only affair, why not have an open bar or hire a quirky jazz band? Just make sure whatever entertainment you choose fits the theme of your outdoor party.

However many people you invite or what kind of theme you choose, to host a wonderful outdoor party, having all the essentials in order will mean you can throw a bash that everyone is sure to remember.
