Welcome to my lifestyle blog, Melissa Jane Lee.
I created this blog on New Year’s Day 2015 as a creative outlet to share my everyday life and loves. Little did I know that just over two years later I would be able to pursue blogging as a full time career. I quit my job, moved counties, bought a new house and started to work for myself. This blog has grown tremendously in the past few years, and I have gained so much from it (if you’re thinking of starting a blog, I say go for it! You won’t look back).
A Little Background
Originally from Oxfordshire, I moved to Gloucestershire in 2016 with my fiancé Sean and our cat Zak. I have a degree in archaeology and ancient history from The University of Liverpool, and a Master’s in Greek and Roman history from The University of Oxford. I worked in and around the academic sphere for many years, but always wanted to be my own boss. Starting this blog was a stepping stone towards self-employment. A few more side hustles later, Sean and I took a leap of faith together to make it happen. We now work for ourselves from home. We had a few setbacks at first, particularly when Sean had a stroke at age 39 (fortunately he is well now). This encouraged us to focus on wellbeing and tranquility, and we prioritise working towards our goals in as stress-free a way as possible. I’m a country girl at heart, so love this new peaceful existence in the countryside pursuing our creative passions. Sadly, my beloved cat Zak passed away in April 2019 which left me heartbroken. We’ve been blessed since then to have Ted, a four year old Maltese, come into our lives. We also have two very tiny kittens called Sam and Pippin (I am a big Lord of the Rings fan!).
The Here & Now
This blog, Melissa Jane Lee, is where I share a lot of my favourite things.
You’ll find delicious vegetarian and vegan recipes, some cracking gift ideas for special occasions throughout the year, and my favourite places to visit (including lots in and around beautiful Gloucestershire). I do tend to write a lot about wine, one of my favourite subjects! However I also love a good cocktail and of course a glass of prosecco (often with some extra ingredients).
I love to share before and afters of our home and garden renovations. It’s a slow process, as our house needs a lot of work and there never seems to be enough hours in the day! But it’s getting there, and we make small amounts of progress every now and then.
I love nice things, like many people, but I am also a huge bargain-hunter and you’ll find me trawling charity shops and car boot sales most weekends. It’s a hobby we both enjoy so Sean always joins me on these treasure hunts. I often feature cute couple ideas and date night suggestions too.
There’s Lots More…
Jewellery is one of my great loves, and I love to talk about it! I have a growing collection of pieces and am forever coming up with new ways to store it. Of course, showing off jewellery sometimes means showing my face too. I am very camera-shy but I do occasionally appear within these pages 🙂
I have been fortunate to have some amazing opportunities come my way through this blog (THIS was a huge standout experience for me). I’ve taken trips, discovered some fantastic travel accessories, received unusual and unique health advice, and met some wonderful people. I’ve found some fantastic brands that I am now a fan of for life. It’s lovely to be able to share experiences and new discoveries with my readers.
Since starting this blog, I have also started up some more blogs to share separate interests, from how I make a living from home to how I try to get myself to enjoy exercising. You can view a list of all of my blogs here.
Between Sean and I we also have an eBay business and a Lego business, and Sean is also an artist. I have an ultimate dream to one day write a bestselling novel! I’d then retire and set up an animal sanctuary. Until that day, we’re happy living creatively in the countryside.
