How to Achieve Your Fitness Goals, From Beginning to End

There are many reasons why you should consider stepping up your fitness game and become the healthiest version of yourself. You’ll look better, feel better, have more energy, and all-around improve your quality of life, both now and in the future. However, it’s not as if it’s always the most straightforward thing in the world to do. While we all want to be our healthiest selves, actually making it happen can seem a little problematic. In this blog, we’re going to take a look at a few essential tips that’ll make your journey towards fitness more straightforward, from beginning to end. Incorporate the tips into your life, and it won’t be long before you’re feeling at your best!

achieve your fitness goals

Choose The Right Time

There’s no avoiding the fact that in order to achieve your fitness goals, you need to be committed; you have to dedicate time to it. As such, it’s recommended that rather than getting started straight away, you find a time when it’s convenient for you to do so. If you have a busy couple of weeks coming up, then you might give up on the gym before you’ve even started. If you’ve got a relatively quiet period, then get things going — you’ll find it’s much easier when you don’t have a million other things occupying your mind.

Find a Convenient Workout Spot

You’ll be all enthusiastic to hit the gym and get fit during the first couple of weeks, but after that, the novelty will wear off. To ensure you stick with your fitness pursuit after that period has passed, you’ll want to make your workout routine as convenient as possible. If the gym you’ve chosen is thirty minutes away from your home, you’ll be less likely to go. Sometimes, it’s worthwhile choosing a slightly lower quality or higher cost gym if it’s conveniently located next to your home. For those living in Australia, you can compare local gyms near you, such as those in Adelaide, to find the best options. You’ll have no excuse not to go if it’s just a few minutes away from your front door.

Start Slow

People often want to make up for lost time when they finally sign up for the gym and end up going super hard during their first couple of visits. The problem is that they go too hard, and it can cause more issues than it solves. When you first sign up for the gym, look at taking things relatively easy during your first few visits. You’ll feel a lot better — and notice more progress — if you slowly build your body up, rather than push it to the limit. Indeed, you’d be better off just trying to work up a light sweat and trying to enjoy your first couple of visits, rather than trying to impress yourself.

Make It Part Of Your Routine

Most people fail because they don’t make it part of their routine. It’s all good and well hitting the gym three times a week, but it’ll all be for nothing if you give up after a month. Think of a trip to your gym as nothing more than part of your schedule, something that is just as important as brushing your teeth or seeing your friends. If you know that you visit the gym every second day at 6:30 pm, then you’ll have formed a habit that’ll put you on the right track towards reaching your fitness goals. There’ll be times when you simply can’t work out, but those moments will be few and far between, and won’t have an effect on your overall fitness levels because they’re so infrequent.

Get the Supplies

It’s true that you don’t need a lot of supplies for the gym. It’s also true that you don’t really need any equipment to get in shape. But we buy supplies, and go to the gym, because it makes things easier. You’ll find the whole process of visiting the gym and working out all the more straightforward if you have gym clothes, a bag, a lock, water bottle, resistance bands for pull ups and everything else. There’s a whole bunch of stuff you can buy, and none of it will be expensive — but it can make a positive difference to your gym experience!

At Home Exercise

We mentioned earlier how there would be times when you can’t go to the gym. Or perhaps it’s just that the weather is a little bit too grim, and you can’t face heading outside. To ensure that you’re still able to get a workout under your belt, look at getting some workout equipment for the home. You’ll be unlikely to have space for a fully formed gym at your house. However you can always use resistance bands. These are weighted bands that you attach to your door for training. There are some pretty intense resistance bands workouts online, so you can stay on top of your fitness even when you’re unable to leave your property.

Eating Well

Some people think that what they do in the gym is all that counts when it comes to reaching their fitness goals. This is not the case. You could argue that it counts for only fifty percent. The other half is all about what you eat. Think of this scenario: would a person really get into shape if they worked out four times a week, but ate nothing but fast food? Not at all, they’d be worse off than someone who didn’t work out at all. So take a look at your diet, and make sure that it’s in line with your fitness goals. There are plenty of easy to make, healthy, and delicious meals that anyone can make. Once you’ve shifted your diet to one that’s better for your health, it won’t be long before you begin to notice that you’re achieving more with your workouts.

Stepping Up

Once you’ve gotten used to going to the gym regularly, you’ll likely find that the workout you chose for yourself when you first got started is no longer causing you as much difficulty as it did in the beginning. This is, of course, a good thing, since it means that you’re getting fitter. It’s important to avoid complacency, however. It’s great that you can do your current workout on autopilot. However it’s not going to be as effective, and eventually you’ll just plateau. As such, it’s recommended that you look at ways to step up and improve your workouts. One way to do this is to work with a personal trainer who will work with you to create a more rigorous and demanding workout. Generally, it’s best to do this early on. Many newcomers are guilty of making a few fundamental errors that hinder their progress.

Recovery Periods

One mistake people make is believing that the more frequently they go to the gym, the more results they’ll see. While this sounds true, the reality is different. Your body needs a period of recovery so that it can get to work on repairing the muscles. It is at this point where strength is built. At a minimum, you should have at least one day of rest. If you’ve pushed yourself at the gym, then you’ll need this break anyway. If you find that you’re taking too long to recover from your workouts, then that’s another issue that will need to be dealt with. Essentially, it’s best to think of your workouts in three separate parts. These are the workout, what you eat, and the rest period in between trips to the gym. Get these things right, and you’ll be on your way to becoming the healthiest, leanest version of yourself.

Active Lifestyles

One of the reasons why so many of us are unhealthy in the first place is because we generally live a sedentary lifestyle. That is, we spend too much of our time sitting down. Your ancestors were likely much stronger than you are. This is purely because their lifestyle demanded that they use their body much more. You can supercharge your fitness by leading a generally active lifestyle. If you walk instead of driving all the time, spend time in nature, and avoid sitting down all day, then you’ll be doing the right thing.

Give Up the Vices

It’s much easier to get yourself to the gym and have a great workout if you have energy to spare. So it’s worthwhile looking at the things in your lifestyle that might be draining that energy. Alcohol, for example, can really slow you down. If you can cut out those drinks and anything else that could be doing you harm — like smoking cigarettes — then you’ll find you can work out even better.

Body Acceptance

Finally, remember that one of the main reasons why it’s important to set targets is that it’ll give you something to achieve. More importantly, will prevent you from taking things too far. Workout addiction is a real problem that you should be wary of. Once you’ve reached your target for your body, look at maintaining that physique, rather than pushing things further and further.
