Best Travel Destinations for a Wedding

Planning a destination wedding? Get ready for a search filled with joy, imagination and, yes, a few challenges! Destination weddings are the most popular type of wedding in this decade, probably because the term “wedding venue” can mean anywhere in the world your heart takes you, from the steppes of Machu Picchu to the slopes of a Swiss ski chalet.

So, where will you go for your destination wedding? Here are a few details to consider before you decide:

  • Your wedding budget, including airfare and hotel costs. (Yes, we fully understand no one wants to consider this question first, but your wallet will thank you later. Sorry/not sorry.)
  • Who will be traveling to attend your wedding? Do you have friends or family who have travel limitations? High-altitude, mountainous terrain and other challenging destinations may be problematic for family members or friends. You’ll want to keep them in mind when choosing your destination.
  • How many guests will be invited to your wedding? The number of guests may drive the destination and wedding venue; you’ll want to estimate a guest count early in your search for a wedding destination
  • In what season of the year will you be getting married? Is this a strange question? Not really. An outdoor wedding can be drenched during monsoon season or laced with blazing hot sun, so it’s wise to check out the best season for your destination wedding before handing over your credit card.

You’ve done your homework; let’s consider which dreamy destination wedding could be yours.

Yosemite Valley  Yosemite National Park, California

If you are looking for brilliant beauty in nature’s playground, consider a summer to mid-fall wedding in Yosemite Valley, California. Sugar maple trees explode in bright red hues next to golden aspen and dogwood trees, forming the only decor accents you’ll need for this wedding. The valley stands ready for you and your guests to enjoy a warm, intimate setting surrounded by nature’s blanket of beauty. This wonderland of waterfalls, sheer rock cliffs and mountain peaks is calling your name.

Key West, Florida

Dreaming about a wedding on a colonial estate surrounded by an acre of lush green lawn in Key West? Discover the Ernest Hemingway Home, or any of the other beautiful home venues, where the gardens create a tropical flower show for outdoor weddings. The bonus: you’ll travel across the famous 7-mile Bridge to get there (hint: don’t forget to rent a convertible).

Treasure Beach, Jamaica

This off-the-beaten-path destination is on the south side of the island, etched with sunny beach coves and quiet corners naturally wrapped around coastal rocks. Think of a beach wedding at sunset and you’re there! With authentic Jamaican hospitality, mineral baths and secluded waterfalls, your destination wedding will be a loving memory forever.

Santorini, Greece

The most compelling part of this sun-drenched island destination is the contrast between the blazing white traditional Greek homes and chapels and the bright blue seas. This destination is a photo op at every turn. The people of Santorini will welcome you with open arms and traditional dishes at every open-door taverna or restaurant. Thick, white arches form natural wedding backdrops (at no extra charge) and winding steps to hilltop destinations offer spectacular vistas of beauty. If you love the warmth of the sun, blue skies and seas, this is your destination.

Seville, Spain

Seville, the City of Love, is filled with gentle lights, a welcoming climate and a city that seems to  specialize in authentic wedding venues, including hacienda and bodega weddings, traditional cathedrals, luxurious palaces, and a multitude of private rooftop terraces. With all of these choices and a variety of wedding experiences within these city walls, Seville is set up to become your go-to wedding destination.

Napa Valley, California

For the price of a plane ticket to San Francisco, you can experience the rich beauty of vineyards, gourmet restaurants, and wineries similar to those of Italy or France. Travel by car, train or even a bicycle through the Napa Valley ribbon of wineries to find your wedding destination. Multiple vineyard destinations, ranch barns and wooden chapels await your wedding day presence amid the golden season of the fall harvest.

Has your search for a wedding destination piqued your interest in starting a wedding venue in your own area? If so, consider using this wedding venue business plan to fill in the template and easily complete the framework of your own wedding venue company.

If you are considering starting a wedding venue business with full travel services and other options for wedding parties, you’ll want to consider using this how to start a wedding venue business plan and template.

Whether you choose a rustic barn, luxurious palace or golden valley floor in which to hold your wedding, we hope these dreamy destinations will spark some wedding ideas for you. Wishing you a wonderful wedding day!
