Home Moving with Mindfulness On Your Next Transition

Moving with mindfulness can help remove the associated stress of one of life’s most necessary experiences. Where many people feel high emotions and added pressure when transitioning between living spaces, a mindful approach can help make it the joyous leap into a new chapter that it should be.

From decluttering to your comfort box, here are some helpful suggestions.

Ground Yourself on the Day

Moving is a stressful event and a life-changing experience, and one that can also wreak havoc on your emotions and expectations. Therefore, it helps to stay grounded when moving so you aren’t overwhelmed with the change and the added pressure of the day, especially if something goes wrong.

To help avoid mistakes and ease some pressure, house removals services can help. However, take 5-minute micro breaks any time you feel things are becoming too much.

Ask: Keep, Donate, Discard?

A few weeks before you are due to move, you can relieve some of the pressure of the day by actively getting rid of the clutter and items you don’t need. A calm moving day relies on minimising the pressure of the day, and too much stuff can weigh you down and hold you back.

So, go through your stuff and ask if you should keep, donate/sell or get rid of them. With less stuff, you can declutter the place and your mind and make it easier when it comes to packing.

Moving with Mindfulness: Three Tasks at a Time

A survey of recent movers in the UK found that 61% feel it is more stressful than getting divorced! That’s a stunning figure that shows how much pressure moving can actually add to your day.

There are a few ways you can keep life admin from eating your time, which can also help when you are moving from one place to another. One of the most useful is to think of three tasks at a time without envisioning the entire project, which can become overwhelming.

Create a Comfort Box to Survive Night One

The first night in a new home can be extremely emotional, especially if you have transitioned from a place with treasured memories. Of course, you will need a box of essentials such as hygiene and grooming stuff, cutlery for eating and medication.

However, there’s no reason you can’t add some stuff that provides comfort if you are particularly sensitive. For example, your favourite blanket, some family photos and even a therapy kit (candles, etc.) will help.

Stay Aware of Your Emotions

As one of the most emotionally trying times of your life, moving can be like a rollercoaster of feelings. On the one hand, you are entering a new chapter of your life, yet on the other, you are leaving something behind.

That’s why coping with the stress and anxiety of moving house can be one of the hardest things to overcome for sensitive people. However, you can keep your emotions in check with personal observation, self-care and journaling about your feelings.

Summary

Keeping yourself grounded on the day will help when moving with mindfulness to relieve some of the pressure. It will also help to focus on three tasks at a time to avoid becoming overwhelmed, while staying aware of your emotions with personal check-ins on the day.
