5 Easy Ways to Stay Organized When Moving Home

Moving is a stressful time, and it can be easy to forget things as you pack up your old house and prepare to move into a new one. However, being organized makes the moving process less stressful and much quicker. If you’re moving soon, here are some tips on staying organized when you pack up and leave your old home for the new one.

Create a moving to-do list

Before you even begin to think of what you are packing, you must consider the practicalities of moving. A to-do list is a great way to keep track of everything you need to do before the move. This includes updating your new address and moving date with your utility companies, driving license, doctors, schools, dentists, banks, and work, for example. Look into cross country moving companies if you need one, and ensure you have plenty of time booked off work if required to allow you time to move quickly.

Declutter before you pack

Decluttering is a great way to organize before you move. Suppose you have things you don’t need or use, bag them up and get them out of the house. One of the best ways to declutter is to set a rule that any item you’ve had for over a year that you haven’t used must go. You’ll be amazed at how much clutter you can get rid of. You might also want to declutter your wardrobe before you pack. If you have clothes that don’t fit or don’t suit your style, get rid of them so you aren’t tempted to pack them up and take them to your new home.

Create a packing checklist

Before you start packing, create a packing checklist, so you know what to pack and in what order. Start by breaking each room into smaller tasks, then pack the least used items first. This can be things like toys, ornaments, appliances that aren’t used daily, etc. Make sure each box is labeled and checked off to ensure you know what you have done. Then you can move on to other things the closer you get to moving day.

Mark your boxes

It’s easy to get lost when packing, especially if you don’t know where things go. Mark each box with a label so you know what’s inside it and where it should go. This will help you out on moving day as the boxes can quickly go to the right rooms, and you will be able to find what you need faster for easier organization and unpacking.

Use a storage unit

If you are short on space, a storage unit is a great way to store extra items you have already packed up, so they aren’t in your way at home. You can find units in different sizes to meet your needs, from 10×10 storage to smaller and bigger units. Once you have packed up a certain room or part of your home, move all the boxes or furniture to a storage unit if they won’t be needed. This allows you more space to move around your home to finish your packing and removes the risk of things being accidentally unpacked again at home.

Conclusion

Moving can be stressful, but staying organized and getting help from cross country moving company South Carolina can make the process much easier.
