4 Mistakes That Stop People Coming Back To Your Store

While more and more stores might be moving into the e-commerce space, if you’re able to spot an opportunity to thrive in brick-and-mortar retail, it can help you quickly grow a successful business. However, simply choosing the right spot isn’t guaranteed success. In fact, many growing stores find plenty of ways to sabotage their profits. Here, we’re going to look at some of them and how you can avoid the same unfortunate fate.

Poor Customer Service

The easiest way to ensure that you’re losing repeat customers is to simply not deliver the kind of service they would expect. Rude and apathetic workers who never do more than the bare minimum to help customers, ignore them, or even try high-pressure tactics to push sales are easily going to push them away. Investing in training for your team can help you maintain certain standards.

In reality, if you’re not paying them a decent wage and treating them well, then they’re a lot less likely to be invested in the success of the business. Employee satisfaction often directly leads ot customer satisfaction.

Friction At Checkout

The process of purchasing items should be as simple for your team as possible, and yet there are still plenty of businesses that fail at this. This can often be down to poor scheduling, leading to fewer people manning the store and longer wait times. Being unable to easily take different forms of payment is another big obstacle, one that can easily be solved with the right POS system for retailers.

Just as important is ensuring that the checkout section of the store is just as accommodating in the event of returns or customers coming back to exchange items if they made a mistake in their purchases. Trying to hold onto your profits in every instance can prevent you from making more in the future.

Lack Of Care For The Store Environment

Highly trafficked stores can find their standards slipping over time, but it’s important to ensure that you don’t let this happen to you. Maintaining clean floors, dust-free shelves, and picking up any trash is vital. Have your team trained to maintain the store floor throughout the day, then consider working with commercial cleaners to raise those standards to the utmost level every day.

Clutter and a lack of hygiene can easily make people more eager to leave your store.

Poor Shop Explorability

You want your customers to be able to wander through the store, easily getting the information they need to make an informed purchase. There are a few factors that can get in the way of this, such as empty shelves, a lack of visible pricing on your goods, or even signs and signals that discourage shoppers, like “do not touch” signs.

If customers don’t feel welcomed and catered to by your store, then they’re less likely to come back to it.

There are plenty of failures in the retail world that you should be ready to learn from. The tips above can help you do just that.
