Cruelty Free Hair Products From Green People

My hair is coloured, dry and damaged, and I’m always switching between hair products to find something that works for me. My hair is also very fine and long, and is prone to split ends, knots and breakage. I can’t bring myself to cut it shorter just yet, so I need to find cruelty free hair products that can repair damage, protect my colour and detangle. Green People asked if I would like to trial some of their products during their February Fixer campaign, and I immediately said yes. I’ve been using their Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner now for the past month.

The Green People Intensive Repair Shampoo

This is a strengthening shampoo for coloured or dry hair. It’s made with Organic Green Tea, Yucca, Quinoa, Sandalwood & Orange. It’s also 82% certified organic and contains Quinoa Protein to help limit colour fade as part of their new colour-lock system. The shampoo itself is clear and thick, and has a herbal scent which is very reminiscent of an Aveda product for example. Personally I love the smell. I find it very luxurious, and the kind of scent you’d get in a really nice hair salon.

There are no nasties in this shampoo whatsoever. In fact, according to the website it has no SLS, SLES, methylisothiazolinone (MI), methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI), parabens, lanolin, phthalates, propylene glycol, alcohol (ethyl alcohol, ethanol), harsh foaming agents, irritating emulsifiers, synthetic fragrance, PABA-sunscreen, gluten, colourants, petrochemicals, urea, DEA, TEA or PEGs. Phew! Because of this, people with eczema and psoriasis may be able to use it (read my Suu Balm review if you suffer with these).

Despite having no SLS, it lathers extremely well. I like this. Having used SLS-free shampoos in the past I often found the fact that most of them don’t lather very frustrating, as I couldn’t wash all the shampoo out. That doesn’t happen at all with this shampoo. In fact, it leaves my hair so clean that I was amazed the first time I used it at that squeaky-clean feeling it gives. It’s like it takes all the build-up out of your hair without stripping it at all. It’s not a clarifying shampoo but does leave hair extremely clean and fresh. As my hair is extremely fine, I have to be careful about weighing it down. The fact this shampoo washes out so easily leaves it light and bouncy.

The shampoo is £14 for 200ml and can be bought from the Green People website.

The Green People Intensive Repair Conditioner

The conditioner has the same lovely fragrance as the shampoo. It’s designed for dry, coloured, chemically-treated & frequently blow-dried hair. Which really describes my hair very well. Made with Organic Green Tea, Aloe Vera & B vitamin, it is designed to moisturise both your hair and your scalp while boosting shine.

I go through a lot of conditioner as my hair is very long and knotty. I tend to pile it on in the shower and leave for a few minutes to get to work. Initially I thought the conditioner was thinner than I would normally like. It’s not thin, just not a very thick consistency which I prefer and find works well at detangling my hair. So I was a little sceptical that it would work well as a detangler. It didn’t detangle my hair particularly well, as it turned out, but I have not found anything in the past couple of years that has, apart from sprays which I use after the shower. I think that’s just the nature of my hair and its length now.

What this conditioner does do, as you can see above, is make hair very shiny. It also really brought out the colour in my hair, which often looks flat and dull. It did not weight it down in any way, washed out easily and left that lovely scent in my hair for a few hours.

The conditioner is also £14 for 200ml on the Green People website.

My Verdict

The shampoo really is a stand out product for me. Perfect fragrance, consistency and results. That’s not to say the conditioner is not as good. I like the fact that it is not too thick, to be honest. Both the shampoo and conditioner seem to actually do good things for the hair. They don’t mask any damage or dryness with silicones. After washing with these two, I was left with very clean hair that is hydrated and soft. It felt like going back to basics with haircare and nourishing my hair and scalp rather than bombarding them with chemicals. Although they do cost more than most shampoos and conditioners, they are worth it if you value the quality of the ingredients you use in your hair care products. These are two very classy products.

I also want to mention that the recyclable packaging is lovely. The shampoo and conditioner are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, cruelty free and fair trade. Pretty much perfect!

They sound great. I need SLS-free products, but equally, I can’t really use ones that don’t lather, so it’s always good to find one that does.
