How To Pick The Right Bikini For Your Body Shape

Last updated: October 15, 2023

The evenings are getting lighter, the clocks are almost due to go forward and that means only one thing: summer is coming. This thought strikes fear into many because of the thought of having to wear a bikini on holiday. After months of covering up and eating for comfort and warmth, the prospect of having to bare some leg is daunting. There are ways to help hide those lumps, bumps and other wobbly areas by going for particular bikini styles. There are many types of bikini bottoms and tops which can help hide those bits you don’t like, and flatter your figure.

types of bikini bottoms

Here’s what to wear if you are:

Pear Shaped

If you’re larger on the bottom half than the top, try to balance it out with a colourful printed Australian Bikinis top. Go for something plain at the bottom, and as minimal as you can to not draw attention to the area. Try to avoid skimpy bottoms, however, if you have a larger behind.

Apple Shaped

If your tummy is your problem area, you can try to draw attention away from it with a plunging neckline. Anything that accentuates your waist and draws in your tummy is also a good idea. A high waisted bikini will help cover your stomach while drawing attention back to your waistline.

Athletic

If your body is trim without large hips or a large bust, you can create the illusion of these curves with ruching, padding and bright patterns. You want to create the illusion of volume in certain areas, so pick curved and feminine designs and avoid bandeau tops and boy short bottoms.

Curvy

If you’re balanced out but curvy everywhere, make sure your top half is supported for a flattering look. Go for thicker straps that won’t dig in to fatty areas, and a bit more coverage on your bikini bottoms. You don’t have to be frumpy if you’re curvier, just careful about picking the most flattering cuts.

Short Legged

To elongate your legs, go for high cut bikini bottoms. They will give the illusion of longer pins. If you add in an eye catching bikini top, attention will be drawn up.

Picking particular types of bikini bottoms and tops will help you accentuate your figure and look your best on the beach. But most of all, don’t worry about what you look like and just have fun in the sun!
