No doubt, like me, you’ll have seen lots of CurrentBody LED Mask reviews and been curious to know what this interesting looking mask is all about.

LED masks are incredibly popular, partly thanks to celebrities like Kourtney Kardashian, Lily Collins and Kaley Cuoco all being spotted using one before a big event.

In the era of self care, skincare devices like red light masks have become commonplace beauty tools to use as part of an at-home skincare routine.

CurrentBody Skin’s famous LED Light Therapy Face Mask is one of the most popular red light therapy treatments and has a legion of fans.

The full face mask retails for $380 USD (or £279 / €329).

There are a number of other devices in the range too including the CurrentBody Skin LED Eye Perfector which retails for $249 USD (or £189 / €219).

What is the CurrentBody LED Face Mask?

The CurrentBody LED Face Mask is a red light therapy device designed for skincare purposes.

This at-home beauty device uses red and near-infrared light therapy to improve the appearance of your skin.

The mask is embedded with 132 LED bulbs that emit two different wavelengths of light:

  • Red light (633 nm)
  • Near-infrared light (830 nm)

You wear the mask for only ten minutes at a time several times a week to get the benefits of the LED lights.

What are the benefits of Red Light Therapy?

Red light has been shown to stimulate the production of collagen, which can help to reduce wrinkles and improve skin elasticity. It can also help to reduce redness and improve skin tone.

Near-infrared light can penetrate deeper into the skin than red light, and it has been shown to boost blood circulation and increase the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells. This can help to improve skin texture and firmness.

Here are some of the benefits of using the CurrentBody LED Face Mask:

  • Reduces wrinkles and fine lines on the skin’s surface
  • Improves skin elasticity
  • Reduces redness and inflammation
  • Improves skin tone and texture
  • Boosts collagen production
  • Increases blood circulation
  • Delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells

The CurrentBody LED mask delivers red light wavelengths and near-infrared wavelengths at the optimum frequencies needed to penetrate the skin’s layers and give you all these amazing benefits.

The LED lights inside the mask are diffused using Pillow Technology™ which ensures the entire face is covered with red light.

How do you use the CurrentBody LED Mask?

The mask is extremely simple to use, non-invasive and really quick at doing its job.

You only need to wear the mask for 10 minutes at a time, 3 to 5 times a week to get the best results.

Just pop the mask on and fasten it with the velcro strap. Switch it on and go about your business for 10 minutes, after which the mask automatically shuts off.

The mask comes with goggles if you need them, although I have never actually worn mine.

You can use it in the morning or at night, so it’s quite easy to fit in to your daily routine.

The CurrentBody Skin LED Eye Perfector is even quicker to use and only takes 3 minutes. You can use this around 6 times a week to get the benefits of red light therapy around your eye area.

How long does it take for an LED mask to show results?

According to CurrentBody, if you use this mask as often as they recommend it can take as little as 4 weeks to start to see results with the LED mask.

Most people will start to see results from using the LED mask at the 6-8 week mark.

The body’s production of new collagen takes several weeks (some sources say 8-12 weeks) so it’s wise to consistently use the mask as directed for a long period to see good results.

How do you get the best results from the LED mask?

To get the most out of the CurrentBody LED light therapy mask follow these tips:

  • Use the mask consistently: The more consistently you use the mask, the better the results will be. Stick to the recommended schedule of 3-5 times per week for optimal results.
  • Clean your face before each use: This will help to remove any dirt or oil that could interfere with the light therapy.
  • Don’t wear SPF during the treatment: SPF can actually block the light from reaching your skin, which will reduce the effectiveness of the LED therapy.
  • Avoid using active ingredients on your skin before using the LED mask. This includes ingredients like retinol, AHAs, and BHAs. These ingredients can make your skin more sensitive to light, which could increase the risk of irritation.
  • Use a serum or moisturizer with active ingredients that complement the light therapy. For example, CurrentBody’s Hydrogel Face Masks or Green Tea Serum.

I like using the Hydrogel Face Masks before my LED treatment. They have some really interesting skin-loving ingredients like:

  • Hyaluronic acid: a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to keep skin hydrated.
  • Origanum Vulgare Leaf Extract: an antioxidant that can help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. It is also astringent, which means that it can help to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of pores.
  • Cinnamomum Cassia Bark Extract: an anti-inflammatory that can help to reduce redness and irritation. It is also a stimulant, which means that it can help to improve circulation and give the skin a healthy glow.

I use my LED mask in the mornings when I get up. This is because I’ve cleansed away any residual SPF the night before. However you can use it in the evenings instead if that suits you better. If you do, make sure to remove makeup and SPF thoroughly before your treatment.

I’ll usually use the LED Eye Mask in the evenings when I’m doing my skincare routine and want a little boost around my eyes.

My CurrentBody LED Mask before and after photos

Below are my before and after photos after using the CurrentBody LED Mask for 6 months.

In all of these before and after photos, the before photo is on the left and the after photo is on the right. The before photos were taken in January, and the after photos were taken in July of the same year.

For reference:

  • I am 44 years old
  • I have redness, fine lines and pigmentation thanks to lots of sunbathing in my 20s
  • I am still prone to acne
  • I wear SPF 50 on my face every day and have done for the past 10 years
  • I did not use retinol or any other actives during the 6 months apart from a mild Vitamin C serum
  • I used the masks around 4 times a week on average throughout that time

Side profile before and after

currentbody before and after review photo

Most surprising to me on first seeing these before and after photos is the much more even skin tone I have overall after using the CurrentBody LED light mask.

Much of my pigmentation has faded away. and even that stubborn pigmentation patch I have on my cheek seems to have faded a little.

There is less redness around my nose and the centre of my face.

Forehead before and after

The difference in this area is quite subtle, but I do see a little bit of a reduction in the depth of the fine lines on my forehead.

The area between my eyebrows, which was starting to get a little crepey last year, definitely looks a tiny bit smoother to me.

Chin area before and after

currentbody before and after led mask photos

This has long been a problem area for me. After having acne for many years I’ve struggled with lines forming here due to scarring.

I’m quite amazed that the lines on my chin are much less prominent than they were 6 months ago. The uneven texture and pore size also looks reduced.

Eye area before and after

Here I can definitely see an improvement in the pigmentation on my cheekbone, and just a much healthier-looking complexion overall.

The crow’s feet around my eyes are not very prominent when I’m not smiling but when I do you can see that they do appear quite obviously.

The main difference I notice in these before and after photos is the appearance of the skin being a little less crepey and textured. While the larger lines are all still there I think overall the skin looks more plump and the very small lines have smoothed out.

Summing up my CurrentBody LED Mask review

Overall I am so amazed at the difference in both the pigmentation reduction in my skin and the overall brightness that I have in the after photos. My entire face looks clearer, pores a little less obvious and the very fine lines and crepey skin which were bothering me in January are much less visible in July.

I used each LED device for six months and while the results are not incredibly dramatic instantly, regular use has paid off I believe. It has made my skin look brighter, fresher and with a glow.

Incidentally, the reason I use my CurrentBody LED Mask in the morning is because I love the instant glow it gives me and the red light really seems to wake me up.

CurrentBody LED Mask Pros:

  • it’s a non-invasive treatment
  • you can treat your skin with red light therapy in the comfort of your own home
  • it’s completely painless
  • treatment time is only 10 minutes maximum
  • the masks are both very comfortable to wear
  • they are easy to clean as they’re made of a flexible silicone
  • gives skin a lovely glow after use
  • comes with a storage bag

CurrentBody LED Mask Cons:

  • while you can walk about with the mask on I would be careful navigating the stairs because it’s a bit more difficult to look down with it on
  • the full face LED mask does leave indentations on my nose after use which lasts around 20 minutes, so don’t use it just before going out of the door
  • I would love it if the charge time of 6 to 8 hours was a little shorter (but this is not a really big deal as it needs charging infrequently)
  • like all beauty products and skincare devices, you need to be consistent using it and should not expect dramatic results instantly

Overall, CurrentBody’s LED Mask is a safe and effective way to improve the appearance of your skin. The natural rejuvenation process and the fresh skin look it has given me have seriously impressed me.

It is FDA-cleared and has been clinically proven to be effective. If you are looking for a way to reduce wrinkles, improve skin tone, and boost collagen production, the CurrentBody LED Face Mask is a great option.

Frequently asked questions

Is CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask FDA approved?

Yes, the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask is FDA approved. It is classified as a Class II medical device, which means that it has been shown to be safe and effective for its intended use. The mask has been clinically proven to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, improve skin tone and texture, and boost collagen production.

Is the CurrentBody LED Mask safe?

Yes, the CurrentBody LED Mask is generally considered safe for most people. It is a non-invasive device that uses red and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. However if you have any skin concerns or illnesses please talk to your doctor first.

Who should not use LED masks?

LED masks are generally safe for most people, but there are some people who should not use them. These include those with photosensitivity or light-sensitive conditions like lupus, photosensitive eczema or Albinism. Certain medications can increase sensitivity to light, making the use of LED masks problematic. If you are taking photosensitizing medications, it’s best to avoid LED light therapy or consult with your healthcare provider. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also not use an LED mask.

Should I use an LED mask with or without serum?

It’s recommend that you use an LED mask on bare skin which is free of makeup, skincare products including serums, and SPF. However, there are some serums specifically formulated for use with an LED mask which complement the red LED light and make the mask work even harder.

Do I need to wear goggles with LED light therapy?

Most LED masks and handheld LED devices designed for at-home use typically do not require the use of goggles because they emit low-level, non-coherent light that is generally considered safe for the eyes. However, if you are sensitive to light CurrentBody’s LED devices do come with googles which you can wear while you use them.

What do you put on your skin after an LED mask?

After using an LED mask, you can continue with your regular skin care routine. For example, gently cleanse your face, then apply a soothing toner and a targeted serum or treatment for your skin concerns. Follow up with a suitable moisturizer, and if needed, an eye cream. During the day, remember to apply sunscreen for protection against UV rays.

Should I use LED mask morning or night?

Both morning and night are suitable times to use an LED mask, but there are some factors to consider. With morning use the LED therapy will help energize the skin, reduce puffiness, and give your skin a glow before you start your day. With nighttime use, the LED mask is a really relaxing step before going to bed. LED light therapy can help promote skin repair and rejuvenation during the nighttime, making it a valuable addition to your bedtime regimen. Ultimately, consistency in using the LED mask is more important than the specific time of day you use it.
