4 Family-Friendly Camping Activities to Keep Everyone Entertained

Last updated: March 14, 2026

A camping trip is a chance to get away from it all. But you may get bored quickly if you’re not used to spending days or weeks in the wilderness.

Fortunately, we’ve curated a short list of the best family-friendly camping activities to entertain your loved ones. From stargazing to outdoor games, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

1. Outdoor Movie Night

Hosting a movie night outdoors is a fun way to enjoy the great outdoors since it combines two great activities: watching movies and camping and is a great family activity.

Watching your favorite flick under the stars is a unique experience only a few get to have. After all, camping is one of the best travel experiences to give your family and you will all remember this experience.

Of course, you’ll need to bring the right equipment, such as a projector, screen, media player, speakers, and a power source. Look for a high-quality projector with Bluetooth connectivity to easily connect with your laptop and speakers.

If you’re boondocking, a generator is a must-have to power your electronics. However, traditional gas generators are noisy and create fumes. We recommend portable solar generators instead. Unlike gas generators, they operate quietly, making them perfect for natural settings, and offer a clean energy solution that doesn’t emit harmful pollutants.

2. Campfire with S’mores

Camping wouldn’t be the same without the timeless campfire activities of making s’mores and sharing campfire stories.

S’mores are a delicious mouthwatering treat that everyone loves. The combination of melted chocolate, gooey marshmallows, and crispy graham crackers is irresistible.

It’s an easy activity requiring no special equipment or cooking skills. You only need a campfire, the right ingredients, some skewers, and some stories.

3. Stargazing

Camping under a blanket and looking at the shining stars can be a mind-bending experience. Gazing at the night sky and marveling at the vastness of the universe is a sight to behold. It’s a relaxing and peaceful activity that can help you connect with nature and de-stress.

There are mental health benefits to spending time under the stars. One 2015 study found that looking at the night sky can shift your attention “away from being the center of your own universe and veer your focus to a broader social context.” As a result, you begin to see the bigger picture and live life to the fullest.

4. Camping Games

Research has proven that outdoor experiences like camping can help children become more environmentally conscious, manage stress and reduce boredom. Camping games are a great way to immerse them in the outdoors.

Here are a few games to consider:

  • Bean Bag Toss: Players take turns throwing bean bags toward a board with a hole. Points are awarded based on where it lands, with the winner having the highest score at the end of the game.
  • Bingo Boards: Camping Bingo is an educational game with a board with words or pictures of an object for players to find. Each card contains different items, and the first person to find all the items on their card wins.
  • Outdoor Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of items for players or teams to find. Each clue leads to another until the first person finds all the clues or items.

Alternatively, there are lots of games you can play with kids which are character building activities too.

Wrapping It Up

There’s no shortage of kid-friendly camping activities. When planned properly, your camping trip can create unforgettable memories that your family will cherish for years.

Take the time to plan your activities in advance, so you can spend time exploring nature, bonding with your family, and creating powerful experiences.
