Frezyderm Sunscreen Review: Velvet Face SPF 50+

Frezyderm is a Greek skincare brand which has fairly recently arrived in the UK. I really like Greek skincare, but can’t remember seeing this brand when I’ve been in Greece.

Frezyderm have an absolutely huge range of products. They include baby products, a range for kids, toothpaste, hair care, and anti-ageing skincare as well as products addressing problem skin such as acne, psoriasis and eczema issues.

The brand has been established for over 30 years in Greece, and is now available on Amazon.

I’ve been trying out some of their products over the past few weeks. Below I review the Frezyderm Sun Screen Velvet Face SPF50, as well as their Anti-Ageing Body Cream, Age Repair Set and De-make Up 4 in 1 cleanser.

For reference, my skin type is normal to dry but prone to congestion. I do not have sensitive skin. My skin tone is light to medium.

Frezyderm Sunscreen Velvet Face SPF50+ Review

This is the only Frezyderm product I had read reviews of before I started trialling their products, and one I was really excited to try.

I have worn SPF on my face for years and usually go for high sun protection such as an SPF 50. The Frezyderm sunscreen fits the bill with this level of high protection.

Frezyderm say the product has broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays. This will help protect against the signs of photo-aging, the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots, and of course unseen sun damage which can cause future problems.

This is a transparent sun protection face cream which Frezyderm say has a revolutionary second skin technology innovation.

It is a completely unique formula that gives a matte finish and a velvety feeling. At the same time it gives effective protection against infrared radiation.

In terms of sun protection, it certainly helps to stop any unexpected burning if the sun comes out. I have worn it in the summer and have never burned.

As with all sun protection products you need to apply a sufficient amount of sunscreen to get the level of protection on the bottle. This is true even if you want to get a real tan as safely as possible but it’s really much safer to learn how to apply fake tan properly).  

I feel confident when wearing the Frezyderm sun screen that I am protecting my face adequately against the sun.

In terms of texture and wearability, the reviews I’d read all said that this product really does feel like velvet as its name suggests.

I have to agree. I have never used a sunscreen as light and silky as this one. It’s completely transparent and leaves no white cast on the skin.

It feels almost as though it evaporates when you put it on, leaving just a silky, slightly silicone-ish feeling behind. No tackiness, stickiness or colour at all. Just a very velvety texture.

It says it gives a matte appearance and absorbs sebum. This isn’t something I’m concerned with, and I don’t usually use mattifying products as my skin is on the dryer side.

I don’t find it drying at all though. The smooth texture it leaves on the skin would make it a great makeup primer. 

It’s water resistant but Frezyderm recommend applying every two hours during sun exposure. Of course if you’re wearing makeup this is more difficult. I haven’t yet tried applying it over makeup but as it has no white tint it might work.

The bottle is 50ml, so despite being quite large it’s still fine to take in hand luggage. The bottle has a lockable pump top so is suitable for travelling with.

This product is a winner for me. It’s currently priced at £20 for 50ml and is available to buy from Amazon.

Frezyderm Anti-Ageing Body Cream

I’m generally pretty dubious of anything which calls itself anti-ageing. The same goes for anything which claims to reduce cellulite.

I think moisture in general makes the skin look more youthful, as does anything which plumps the cells up like hyaluronic acid. This body cream contains sodium hyaluronate, which is a very effective version of hyaluronic acid.

It helps cells to retain moisture, which plumps them up and in turn makes wrinkles and fine lines look less prominent. These are temporary effects.

The cream also contains argan oil and turmeric extract, which I have read gives up to 5 times more antioxidant protection than vitamin E does.

I love this body cream. It sinks in within a minute or two and leaves no residue behind. It does deal immediately with dry-looking skin, and leaves a slight sheen behind.

This is really unusual as it’s quite a thick cream, not a lotion. At first I thought it would sit on the skin like a body butter, as it is so thick. It was a very pleasant surprise that it doesn’t. You can whack this on and get dressed instantly.

It has a light scent that reminds me of a classic skincare fragrance; clean, fresh and without any trace of florals or sweet scents. I like it.

The scent doesn’t linger on the skin, so it won’t interfere with perfumes. I don’t really believe this is going to have a major effect on firmness or wrinkles, but it’s an excellent instant hydrator which leaves skin looking more youthful immediately.

Frezyderm Age Repair Set

This is a two part kit which comes in a lovely silver presentation box. It consists of Retinol Caps, which are little single use retinol capsules, and the Precious Elixir, a dropper bottle of oil.

You use this 25 day supply in the evenings, applying the retinol treatment first. After 15 minutes, apply the Precious Elixir over the top. I’ve had difficulty finding out what concentration of retinol is in the capsules.

I have been using the Paula’s Choice 1% Retinol Treatment, on and off. I use it about once a week at the moment, as I find it a bit too strong to use more often.

I don’t think the Frezyderm Retinol Caps are as strong as this as I haven’t experienced any dryness or flaking with them.

The Precious Elixir is a lovely product. It smells like marzipan, and comes in an easy to use dropper bottle. The oil spreads nicely and sinks in easily leaving skin very soft and moisturised. I have been really enjoying using this at night.

After using this for 14 nights so far I can see a blurring of my fine lines. My skin just looks clearer and the tone more even.

I think the oil probably plays a big part in this, as it contains lots of fatty acids and Vitamin C. Both the Retinol Caps and the Precious Elixir are a lovely treatment to use at night.

They’re great if you want to start incorporating retinol into your skin care regime, but need to start with something gentle at first. Retinol can be very irritating if your skin isn’t used to it, so it’s worth starting with a smaller concentration.

Frezyderm De-make Up 4 In 1

This is a cleansing milk which you remove with cotton wool. You can use it for eye makeup and it says it works on waterproof makeup.

I wanted to test it on waterproof mascara but unfortunately I don’t have any so couldn’t test that out. I’m not really a fan of milky or creamy cleansers which you remove with cotton wool.

I prefer the wash off cleansers (the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel being my absolute favourite at the moment). I find the milky cleansers don’t actually remove makeup well and always leave a residue.

With this cleanser, you massage it in to dry skin and then remove. It is very gentle, and has the same fresh smell which the body cream has. It’s very much a liquid rather than a cream, so is easy to massage in.

I don’t find it very easy to remove, however. It just seems to stick to the skin and is hard to get off.

It leaves a tacky residue which, although that dries down within 30 seconds or so, makes me think traces of it are being left behind. I didn’t find it to do a very good job of removing makeup either, unfortunately.

You need to use some sort of toner or micellar water afterwards to get a clean feeling.

Something I find odd about this is the packaging. It’s in a tube which you store on its head. The cleanser is so milky that when you take the lid off gravity does its thing and it starts to trickle out everywhere.

An upright bottle would have been so much better.

What is nice about it is that it didn’t irritate my skin at all, despite using a lot of cotton wool with it. It’s also very hydrating, leaving no tightness on the skin.

If you like milky cleansers and have dry skin, I think this would be perfect for you. I would suggest using it in the morning rather than to remove makeup, or as a first step cleanser at night before following up with something stronger.

I’ve been really impressed with the quality of the Frezyderm products. They contain lovely ingredients that work well and that are gentle to use.

Nothing I have tried has irritated my skin, and in fact everything seems to be very hydrating without lasting feelings of heaviness or greasiness. 

I particularly love the Frezyderm Sunscreen with SPF 50 so this would be my top pick from the brand and the product I would recommend the most.
