I’m not someone who has a lot of handbags these days. I’ve done a lot of downsizing with my possessions over the years, and culled my bags to a manageable level. I rarely treat myself to a new bag. Nowadays I’m all about practicality. I have a bog standard black tote bag, which is just really convenient because it carries a lot of stuff. A new bag will need to be really special for me to prefer to use it over my everyday go-to bag. I’m excited to say I have found a new, really special bag. This is the Mini Jen travel handbag from Mia Tui.
The Mini Jen might look like just a tote bag, but it’s really an ingenious creation by the founder of Mia Tui, Charlotte Jamme. Once you see what it comes with and what it can do, I think you’ll agree!
Perfect For Travelling
The Mini Jen is called a travel handbag, and this is one of the reasons why:
The bag has an opening behind the outer pocket which slides around suitcase handles. This is just perfect for airports. I know from experience how awkward it can be lugging a shoulder bag as well as dragging a suitcase behind you. This way, your bag stays secure, it’s easier to walk, and you have a free hand. The bag zips up fully so you don’t need to worry about anything falling out of it behind you.
The Ingenious Interior
Things are just as innovative inside the Mini Jen. The bag comes with a number of extra features. Firstly, it has a brightly coloured interior which means you can see everything in there easily. It has a removable longer strap as well. On each side of the bag inside there are extra compartments with specific purposes.
One of the interior pockets contains a transparent zip bag which fits perfectly into its pouch.
This sturdy little bag is the correct size for airport security, so you can pull it out of your bag easily for the scanners. It beats using those flimsy little bags they give you at airports. With it having a zip, you don’t have to worry about spills. As it’s in its own designated interior pocket, you can locate it in a second when you get to the conveyor belt at security. I recommend these portable face mask pods for travelling with, especially on a long haul flight.
On the opposite side is another pouch which contains a smaller, matching handbag.
This little bag comes with both a long shoulder strap, and a wrist loop. Both are removable. This smaller bag is ideal for holding valuables like your purse or passport and boarding pass. It can stay inside the Mini Jen in its designated pouch, easy to locate. You can also carry it as a wristlet or a shoulder bag.
In another corner of the bag, there is an insulated bottle holder. This will keep your drink either hot or cold. It also holds the bottle securely in place; again, no risk of spillages.
On the opposite corner of the bottle holder is another nifty feature. There’s a phone holder as well as two pen holders. I love the fact there are two, as you always have a spare if one runs out. Imagine being on a long haul flight with a crossword book for entertainment, and your only pen runs out? This is just one of the reasons I find this bag so practical. You can also find your phone really quickly this way if it rings. I spend a lot of time rummaging in my bag for my phone and missing calls.
As well as all these features, there’s also an elasticated clip attached to the inside that you can clip your keys to. It’s easy to pull out of the bag with the keys on the end. No more tipping your bag’s contents out on the floor to find your keys, thankfully.
The Large Capacity
Even with all the interior sections, there is still so much room inside the bag. Here it is with the mini handbag (filled with my purse and sunglasses), the travel compliant toiletry bag (filled with my travel-sized toiletries), a water bottle, my phone and pens, and my keys.
The bag is so large that you can fit a lot extra in to it too. Here it is with my laptop, book, glasses, hairbrush and notebooks added too.
Everything is stored so neatly, very easy to find, and nothing is getting lost in the depths. The fact that it has the ability to be fixed to your suitcase as well is a fantastic extra.
The Mini Jen also comes with its own protective bag. If you only want to use it every time you travel, you can store it away safely without fear of any damage or dust.
You can probably tell by now that I really love the Mini Jen. I have never found such a useful bag that can carry so much, yet still look good. I am over the moon with it and highly recommend it as a travel bag. It would work so well as a work bag too.
About Mia Tui
Charlotte Jamme founded Mia Tui in 2010. Charlotte was living a busy life as a working mum of two, and an ex-pat in Vietnam at the time. The idea was borne out of her own frustration with all bags being just empty sacks into which possessions vanished. The interiors were too dark to find anything.
The brand uses no animal-based products whatsoever in any of its products, so this is a completely safe brand for vegans to use. The bags, including the Mini Jen, use super soft and resilient vegan leather.
The bags are still made by craftsmen and women in Vietnam. There is a training programme for workers which allows unskilled employees to learn a trade to sustain them for life. The brand knows all its employees personally.
Where To Buy The Mini Jen
You can purchase Mia Tui bags directly from their website. I have a discount code for you to enter at checkout. The code MJL15 will give you 15% off full priced items. Please note the code cannot be used on any bundle offers or in conjunction with loyalty points or any other code.
The Mini Jen retails for £52 and comes in multiple colours (mine is the colour Tan). There is a slightly larger version, the Jennie, as well.
You can see here that the Mini Jen is still a large bag. I am 5′ 6″ so the Mini Jen might be the best option if you’re the same height as me or shorter.

This a clever handbag but any handbag my wife uses needs a homing instinct so it can come home on it's own when it frequently gets lost. In a world where Apple, Google, Tesla, Oxford University etc. are all working on self driving cars is it beyond the whit of mankind to produce a self driving self homing handbag?

There are so many features I like about the bag, colour (particularly the lining), the bottle holder, pockets for mobile and pen, that it can easily be attached to a suitcase and above all the capacity.
